Here we go.

Carol, I decided to make the definitions as short as humanly possible to make it easier to memorize.

1. Chary
(adj.) wary; 조심하는, 주의하는
sentence: Chary of slipping on the ice hills, the car slowed down.

2. Circumspect
(adj.) chary (& unwilling to take risks); 신중한
sentence: Julia is always circumspect and thoughtful before making any important decisions.

3. Discreet
(adj.) circumspect; 신중한 (has connotation of keeping silent)
sentence: Knowing that the information was private, she made sure she was discreet about it.

Confusing Words

adverse vs. averse

Adverse: (adj.) unfavorable (사람에게는 사용되지 않음, usually situation)
- Adverse rain delayed the X-Country meet.
Averse: (adj.) having a strong dislike for
- David is averse to matrimony; he hates the idea of being bounded to one person for all his life.

SO:

CHARY: 주의하는
CIRCUMSPECT: 신중한
DISCREET: 신중한; 조심하는

ADVERSE: UNFAVORABLE
AVERSE: having STRONG DISLIKE for
